Location, location, location AND it was a historic hotel which added to the meaning for being in Selma. The hotel was a part of Selma's history and we wanted to expereince all of Selma's history. Really wonderful hotel.

No breakfast as promised. Staff was limited.

    • 8.2

Enourmously historic but spooky by its own history, in the best way possible. Edmonds Pittus' bridge (an ikonic landmark of the Civil Rights Movements) right next to the hotel with a magical and mystical view at night time. The internal court yard with its ferry lights does somehow transport you in an other time.

Nothing we did not like. The hotel is quite down dated and there is no wifi, however if you decide to go there you surely don't go there for the wifi or the missing TV. This is a piece of history you are sleeping at. I would not deny more can bee done with the hotel as it is very basic, however it still remains perfect on its present conditions which add a sort of unique and romantic feeling. If you like new and shiny this is not the place for you, but for the sake of the experince please do go there.

Our balcony sunset view over the river was spectacular. The three story atrium, dining room and bar areas are charming.

Had a wonderful room with windows overlooking the Edmund Pettus Bridge.

Were only able to get one room key; 2 would have been nice.

An amazing view of the bridge and river. Lovely downtown location

Restaurant nor bar were open when we stayed!

    • 8.4

Good service. Terrific location near the Edmund Pettis bridge. Easy walking to all sites of historic interest. Good security. Charming wrought-iron balcony overlooking the river and bridge.

This is an old historic hotel built in 1835. Although renovated in 1997 it has maintenance challenges. Beds were firm--1997 level of comfort. Wi-fi didn't work in room, but did in lobby and dining room areas

The place had a small group the room had a lot of problems

    • 6.6

It was easy to find and near the bridge.

Dinner was slow, when it arrived it was warm at best, not good service. Room was comfy, but was the third room we tried, first the bath didn't work, second didn't have a bath. No hairdryer.

Awesome hotel with lots of history. Desk lady gave us a half hour tour in the morning about the history of the hotel. Good location to explore the historic stead of Selma

W e asked for a breakfast and we asked what we wanted and were served promptly. The staff was friendly but not experienced at the business of running an hotel. Understand someone has been approved to buy hotel who has much experience. I'll take friendliness over anything else. I found that if you asked they complied but some staff didn't know about volunteering service. Loved the hotel's antiquity and walking locations to all Selma sites. Food better than most chains.

Well downtown Selma needs a boost with many building unoccupied. No real food businesses other than fast food chains. Ended up at a steak house which was in shambles. Chamber of Commerce needs to get on the stick.

The staff was friendly, curtious and very knowledgeable

When I flushed the toliet the water kept running even though I reported it to the staff and the lady at the front desk who came upstairs with me to survey the problem,it was not repaired the four days I stayed there. I was told it needed a Flapper. I had to take the top off the toliet to push the flapper down to stop the water from running .

Very attractive old building with character a stone's throw from the famous Edmund Pettus bridge. Rooms spacious and comfortable. Very nice place and a great bargain too.
